Team Captain America, Hawkeye, Goliath, Wasp
Villains Sons of the Serpent
Guests Bill Foster; Black WidowWith Cap’s well-being an issue, the Avengers have their hands tied. Bill Foster turns on Goliath, believing the team is a bunch of cowards. Still, our heroes conceive a desperate rescue plan involving the help of the newly-reformed Black Widow. All will turn out to be the plot of General Chen, the Sons of the Serpent’s leader… and also the foreign dignitary supposedly attacked last issue! A nest of vipers, I tell you!
The alarm rings when there’s already an intruder into the Mansion? Some situations seem forced, though, as are the constant references to Goliath’s courage… The Wasp looks ill at ease, also, trying to fit into her past “What’ll I wear?” image.
Disappointing that the Sons of the Serpent in this issue rely too much on the Avengers for their plan, as we thought that all along, it was a conquest scheme of their own, without interference from outsiders.
At this point, we could’ve thought that the Black Widow had good chances of joining the team soon. For some reason, the Scarlet Witch is portrayed on the cover, although she’s absent from this adventure.
The team can next be seen in the Captain America story in Tales of Suspense #84, and then in an important tale in Amazing Spider-Man Annual #3, where Spidey has the chance to join the Avengers if he can subdue the Hulk!
Favorite Line “Well, as of now, you can get yourself another boy!”, Foster with hard-hitting words, thinking that Goliath is a racist.
Favorite Panel Page 3, panel 2: what’s this with these panels depicting Hawkeye doing nothing?
